I always love this view - it looks like we're leaving the atmosphere and heading into space! - The Personal Photos of Jason Dunn

Our tenth day in Japan has us leaving Hiroshima behind, along with Honshu (the main island of Japan), and travelling by plane to the island of Okinawa. We didn't do much our first day in Okinawa, and were disappointed with how windy and cool it was - we were hoping for warmer weather!

Jason Dunn > We were up bright and early in order to get to the airport. We first had to take a taxi to the bus station, then we got on the bus and spent an hour and half getting to the airport.

Jason Dunn > We're getting close to landing on the Island of Okinawa - these look like reefs...

Jason Dunn > The plane had cameras that showed the landing...although looking at the photo now, it looks like more of a computer animation than an actual video feed.

Jason Dunn > Naha International Airport is, I believe, the only airport on the island.

Jason Dunn > This is a Shisa Lion - they ward off evil.

Jason Dunn > This sign has something to do with unhappy turnips....

Jason Dunn > We needed money when we landed, and that ended up being quite the ordeal. The bank machine wasn't accepting our debit cards, or our credit cards, but we discovered that the post office had cash machines that were compatible with our cards. Interact isn't as world-wide as you'd like to think!

Jason Dunn > We were reminded of Hawaii when we got into the cab and started driving to our hotel. It was humid, but not terribly warm.

Jason Dunn > We saw these cars everywhere: the Mazda Demio. Jason liked they way they looked.

Jason Dunn > Since we couldn't check into our hotel until 2 PM (and they were pretty serious about this point), we wandered over to a large gift shop that was nearby. They made a sort of Okinawan shortbread on site - we had some samples and they were delicious.
