Welcome to my photography home on the Web. After years of trying all sorts of online photo services, and uploading my own galleries manually to my Web site, I decided to make Smugmug my photo home on the Web. You can order prints of most of the photos here, and unless otherwise noted I've taken all these photos (except the ones I'm in of course). Enjoy the photos, and remember to cull your own!

Logan's First Halloween : On the afternoon of the 31st of October, Logan had his first Halloween party. The guests were his fellow babies from the "Birth and Babies" class that Ashley and I attended. Only about half of the couples from our class were able to attend, but it was fun to see the cute babies in their adorable little costumes.

Logan Robert Dunn is Born : At 7:20 AM on August the 16th, Logan Robert Dunn came into this world via C-Section. He was 20 inches long, weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces, and was born at the Calgary Foothills hospital. The staff there were great – special thanks to Dr. Paul Martyn for the great job he did on the surgery. This is a wonderful blessing, and I’m humbled and awed that God would give us such a beautiful baby to care for and raise. Japan Day 13 : It was almost time to go home by the time we were on day 13 in Japan, so we wanted to make this a special day by going to an aquarium we had read was world-class. We spent a bit of time in the morning walking around the area, which included an animal petting zoo of sorts. After that, we walked over to the Okinawa Kaigan Quasi-National Park, which didn't seem like much of a park, but it did have a lighthouse that we climbed to the top of. We spent the afternoon at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, where I enjoyed shooting some amazing sea creatures.

Japan Day 12 : Our twelfth day in Japan had us first going to Ryukyu Mura, a historical village where they re-enact what Okinawan life used to be like in the past (I'm guessing 100 years ago, give or take a few decades). It was a colourful, vibrant place, so I snapped quite a few photos. After that, we went back to our hotel for a couple of hours, and then we started our tattoo adventure - which had us going to a beach, an animal shelter, the tattoo studio, and then Tony Roma's for dinner. It was a very fun day, but by this point we were definitely missing home and looking forward to returning.

Face Off Against Cancer 2008 : On Saturday the 13th of September, 2008, I attended Memory Foundation's Face-Off Against Cancer, a hockey tournament held in Chestermere that raises money for malignant melanoma research and support for families impacted by it. This year the tournament was held in Crystal Violante's honour, my friend who passed away from cancer last year. They already had an event photographer, but I decided to bring along my Nikon D300 and Canon HF100 HD video camera and do my best to capture the memories for the people playing on Crystal's Shooting Stars, the team created in her honour. Ashley set a personal goal of $2000 for fund-raising, and she managed to hit $2935 thanks to great support from our friends and family. Thanks to everyone that donated!

Place of Rescue Fundraiser : On September the 12th, 2008, there was a fundraiser held at RockPointe Church for Place of Rescue, a Cambodian orphanage for victims of AIDS. Country music artist Paul Brandt, joined by his wife Liz, played an acoustic set as part of the evening, which also included silent and live auctions. Over $100,000 was raised for Place of Rescue that evening; the generosity of the people who attended was touching. From a photography point of view, I enjoyed myself, though it was hard to get the pictures I wanted of Paul Brandt while trying to avoid blocking other people's view. One of the things I need to do more of as a photographer is to take risks to get great shots.

Lethbridge Air Show 2007 : Ashley and I went to the Lethbridge Air Show with our friends Kim and Mitch Berreth in August of 2007. It was the first air show I'd been to, so it was interesting to see all the planes up close. The Snowbirds performed, and a monster truck showed up as well - a curious addition to an air show, but it was fun taking pictures of a big truck crushing already mostly-crushed cars. My camera worked overtime - I shot around 1300 photos, trying to capture the best shots possible. Unfortunately many of the aerial acrobatics were a bit outside the range of my zoom lens, so these photos involved a lot of cropping and a lack of sharpness. The biggest challenge though was in post-production: I had shot so many photos that were nearly identical it was a headache to pick the best ones. It took me hours to get through them all and an added bonus was a smudge on my lens that had to be fixed in almost every single photo. At any rate, the photos turned out pretty well for being my first attempt at shooting fast-moving objects from the ground.

RockPointe Compassion in Action @ The Crowfoot Movie Theaters : On Sunday the 18th of March, 2007, members of RockPointe church, along with interested visitors, assembled in the Crowfoot movie theatres to view a message from U2's Bono and Bill Hybles about combating AIDS and extreme poverty in Africa. These are my photos from the event - it was, frankly, a nightmare to shoot because of the low lighting. The ultra-high ceilings in most locations made a flash bounce impossible, so I ended up shooting without a flash for most of the shots. The end result is ISO 1600, fairly grainy photos - some of which I transformed into black and white where the grain helps the image have more impact. This was my first real use of Adobe Lightroom, and I was quite impressed with it (for the most part).

Halloween Party 2006 : We had a few friends over (from our church small group) for a little Halloween party. Halloween doesn't seem to be very popular in our area - or maybe it's that we live on a side street - because we only had about 20 kids come to the door. This is going to make me sound old, but when I was a kid my friends and I would hit every house in a 3KM radius side street or not. Come on, free candy - what kid doesn't want free candy? Of course, the problem could be the fact that it was cold and snow was on the ground...but that's almost every Halloween in Calgary. Brr and Boo all at once!
